48 provinces and cities in response to Earth Hour 2012

According to statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), by the end of March 25, 48 provinces and cities have registered for Earth hour 2012 through various concrete actions. In particular, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) are the two most exciting places with many activities attracting thousands of people for the campaign.

Ho Chi Minh City is established as the leader in electricity saving

In 2011, overall electricity saving of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) is 391.3 million kWh, achieved 168% of the target, equivalent to 553.57 bVND. In environmental terms, this is equivalent to reduction of 170 ton of CO2 emissions, contributing to decreased green house effect and environmental protection.

On the last Saturday of March (March 31), the main event of Earth Hour 2012 will be held at the August Square (in front of the Opera House) in Hanoi. Before the main event, Mr. Phuong Hoang Kim, Director in charge of the National targeted Program on Energy Efficiency (VNEEP), from Energy Efficiency and Conservation Office, General Directorate of Energy is making a short interview appealing to individuals and organizations to jointly put a hand to support this campaign with the final goal of environmental protection.
